Another Year, Another Call of Duty....It's Black Ops time!!
December 24th 2010 13:19
So, Activision lives up once again to its promise of a Call of Duty game a year, as it brought out Black Ops this November...Now, if I recall correctly, they hyped this game up like crazy after the success of World at War...And so, being a CoD fan myself, I queued up in the virtual line in Steam's online store...waiting for the game...
The minute I started the game though, my first reaction, while it should have been Awe...was Confusion instead....I didn't know what was going on....I was in a room...there was some idiot standing up there asking me questions...
WHERE THE HELL IS THE MENU?!?!
It took me a while to realize, that WAS the menu....Once this realization dawned upon me my reaction went from confusion to...WHOA!!! Funky Menu Bro!!
However, the game, for some reason, refused to recognize that I had an Awesome XFX 5870...and kept putting at 1024 x 768 settings with all effects turned off...
Anyway, after some tweaking in the settings and stuff, I started the game, and I must say I was impressed...
Look, I'll be honest with you, I'm not gonna talk about the various advantages/ disadvantages of the game here....Any game reviewing site can do that...I'm gonna talk about, what I felt about the game...
The game was supposed to put you in the period of the Cold War....And it did that brilliantly...I was very impressed with the visual quality of the game...No over exaggerated bloom and uber cool looking motion blur, and extremely detailed water reflections and stuff....Just the right amount of graphics to make you feel like you were in the 1950s.....You played two characters, as in every CoD game....One, a straight up and slightly demented soldier called Mason.....Two, An cool looking, shades wearing CIA dude called Hudson.
The game happens in places like Vietnam, Cuba, Russia and the environment is rendered beautifully....Like I said, the visuals were nice!!
The weapons were in plenty with a range of rifles, SMGs and pistols...Some of them had Red Dot Sights....Now Red Dot Sights didn't exist during Cold War, so it cant exactly be called a true to life game, but who cares....CoD has been about Kicking Ass, not true to life crap....Although I must say...I missed the flamethrower present in World at War...In this game, there's Flamethrower attachment for the AK-47...but it's hardly as satisfying as the World at War one.....Overall, it was an awesome shoot 'em up experience.....
The best part of the whole game though is the storyline...Its the most unique CoD story ever...Gripping, with so many twists and turns....When you're done with it, you'll be like...WHAT THE ****?!?! NO WAY!!
It's got everything...Betrayals, friendship, teamwork and also a special case of personality disorder....Trust me...Play the game....If not for the guns, at least for the story!! It will Blow you Away!!!
