Ah...The Arcades

I happened to visit my friends place the other day, and he suggested the idea of going bowling at the nearby entertainment lounge called 'Blur'....
Now this lounge has a tiny two-lane bowling area surrounded by games of every sort. (And I mean everything from Arcade consoles to High end PCs and everything in between). So obviously when two gamers go here to "do some bowling'' you don't have to be an MIT graduate to figure out what they'll actually be doing...
But that's not the point....The point is that while we were there, you'd think the most common spots for hardcore gamers to be was the PC, Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 sections....
So did we....
But surprise, surprise....Gaming has gone back to its roots, and people are enjoying 'retro' gaming more and more...
In the 4 hours of our life we wasted there, we spent 3 and half hours playing the arcade classics like Pac-man, Space Invaders, those cool Bike and Car racing games whose names I forgot and those cool Plane shooting games whose names I've forgotten as well!! (I've really got to start writing these names down! It's embarrassing!). Heck, we even operated a few claw machines(I won a Candy Bar!!)
Oh by the way, For those of you curious people, we spent the rest of the half hour actually bowling.
But anyway, while we were there, We found that almost 85% of the crowd there, were in the Arcade section or the Wii sections. It was unbeleivable, and the people here weren't just geeks, there were all sorts of people (I saw with my own two eyes a grandmother playing a Nascar Rally Arcade machine with her 6 year old grand-daughter!!). Out of curiosity, I asked a Counter Strike player, whom I had met there before, what he was doing in the Arcade section??
He said: "Dude, CS is like...Serious gaming man....That's like work...This is where I like to come to relax!!"
It just blows my mind as to how, with all the technology, graphics, looks and power being put into today's games. A majority of the 'General Population' (I mean Non-Gamers;Muggle-Gamers even, if you're into Harry Potter) still flock to the good old arcades to have fun. Games have grown tremendously ever since it's birth(Fastest growing form of media, people say). And yet people seem to keep revisiting it's roots to have some good hard fun!!!.... Simply Amazing. You have to hand to the guys who made those games...They knew their Stuff!!!
